Political activist and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has launched a fresh wave of criticism against former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, questioning the sincerity of Obi’s recent efforts to woo Northern Nigeria.
On his X page, Omokri questioned Obi’s love for the North, describing it as newly discovered and politically motivated. “Peter Obi now says he loves the North. When did this love start?” Omokri asked, referencing Obi’s controversial past comments and actions.
Omokri didn’t hold back. He reminded Nigerians that Obi once encouraged Christians to “take back their country” and described the 2023 elections as a “religious war.” According to him, these statements alienated the North and painted Obi as someone more interested in religious and ethnic sentiments than national unity.
But beyond words, Omokri accused Obi of silence on the killings of Northerners in the South-East, especially at the hands of Unknown Gunmen, IPOB, and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). He noted that Obi only publicly condemned the killing of Harira Jubril, a pregnant woman from the North, and her four daughters, a full week after public pressure — and only after Omokri himself called him out.
Omokri said what many Northerners are reportedly thinking: If Obi truly loves the North, why does he remain silent when IPOB kills Northerners?

To back up his claims, Omokri referenced past interviews where Obi downplayed IPOB’s role in the violence. In one, Obi said: “The only thing I disagree with is naming IPOB terrorists. They are not terrorists… I live in Onitsha, and I can tell you they are not terrorists.”
And when asked directly to condemn the ESN, Peter Obi reportedly said: “I can’t condemn ESN because I’m not sure who is doing what.”
These remarks have sparked concern among some in the North who believe Obi’s reluctance to criticize IPOB and ESN is a red flag.
Reno Omokri’s latest statement is clearly designed to stir debate and force clarity. He’s asking the North to look beyond the campaign smiles and new slogans. “This is the great friend of the North? A defender of IPOB? Believe this, and you will believe anything,” he concluded.

The silly boy called Omokri is an absolute windbag with zero pedigree or relevance. I’ve just wasted 2 minutes that I can never get back reading his tosh.
