Leaders from the West African group, ECOWAS have been tasked to entrench good governance so that the citizenry can have confidence in democracy.
President Bola Tinubu, who is the chair of the regional group, said this at the 64th Ordinary Session of The ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Governments in Abuja.
President Tinubu stressed that by tackling poverty, inequality and other concerns of the people, the leadership would have succeeded in addressing some of the root causes of military intervention in the region.
The ECOWAS commission’s president, Omar Alieu Touray, told the opening session that the military authorities in Niger Republic had dug in, without any signs of agreeing to proposals to return the country to constitutional order.
