The Edo State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, terminated the appointments of all political appointees attached to its members. The decision, announced during a plenary session in the State capital, Benin by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, was unanimously supported by all 24 members of the Edo Assembly House.
This sweeping dismissal affects special advisers, senior special advisers, and other appointees who were first appointed at the inauguration of the Eighth Assembly in June 2023. “I believe it has been nearly two years now, and the House has graciously agreed that these appointees should be relieved of their duties as of today, 19 February,” Agbebaku explained.
Despite the abrupt termination, the dismissed appointees are set to receive their February salaries. The Speaker noted that the Assembly would reconvene soon to determine the next course of action regarding the roles previously occupied by these appointees.

This decisive move underscores the Assembly’s intent to reassess and streamline its advisory structure, reflecting a broader commitment to accountability and effective governance in Edo State.
