The Federal Government has cancelled the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The announcement was made late Monday night in Abuja through a statement issued by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

According to the statement, the cancellation does not in any way undermine the importance of the historic milestone. Imohiosen assured that Nigeria’s independence would still be celebrated with “dignity and enthusiasm,” even without the traditional parade.
“All other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary remain in effect,” the statement read. “The Government deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by this cancellation and appreciates the understanding, support, and cooperation of Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests.”

The government also urged citizens to support the ongoing reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which it said are geared towards making Nigeria a greater nation.
