Retired Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and distinguished Nigerian Army officer, has passed away at the age of 82.
The former minister died on Thursday after battling a protracted illness.
Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, confirmed the news in a statement released on Thursday.
The statement described Lt. Gen. Useni’s passing as a tremendous loss, not only to his family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation at large.
Lt. Gen. Useni had a storied career in the Nigerian Army, where he served with distinction for decades. He rose to the rank of Quartermaster General, overseeing the logistical and material needs of the Armed Forces.
His dedication and leadership during his time in the military earned him widespread respect among his colleagues and superiors. As a committed officer, Useni played a key role in enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army, especially during critical periods in the nation’s history.
Governor Mutfwang paid tribute to the late general, emphasizing his invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s security and political landscape.
He highlighted Useni’s tireless efforts to promote peace and stability, particularly in Northern Nigeria and his home state of Plateau.
