Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday swore in newly appointed commissioners, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them and work diligently for the development of the state.
The ceremony took place at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where the commissioners took the oath of allegiance and oath of office, pledging to faithfully discharge their duties and not disclose confidential matters that may come to their knowledge in the course of their official responsibilities.
Addressing the new cabinet members shortly after the swearing-in, Governor Fubara said the rigorous screening carried out by the Rivers State House of Assembly had already tested their competence and readiness to serve the people.
According to him, the screening process itself was a strong charge, adding that the successful nominees had already demonstrated that they were fit for the responsibilities ahead.
The governor therefore told the commissioners that he expected them to give their best in office and contribute meaningfully to governance in the state.
“I believe that going through one of the most rigorous screening exercises is enough to say that those of you who succeeded are fit and ready to deliver to our state,” he said.
“I wish you the best and I expect nothing less than the best from you,” Fubara added.
Some of the commissioners, while speaking after the ceremony, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged their commitment to the administration’s development agenda.
One of the appointees said he would focus on his responsibilities and work with other members of the executive council to move the state forward.
“I will concentrate on my job. That’s what I’m here for — to work and ensure that we develop the state together,” he said.
Another commissioner who described himself as a seasoned academic said his wealth of experience would enable him to contribute positively to the administration and strengthen governance in the state.
“With my experience in academics, I am sure I will be able to impact positively in this administration,” he said.
In a lighter moment during the interaction, another appointee introduced himself as an accountant by profession, jokingly noting that he was not a professor, which drew laughter from those present.

Another commissioner also described his appointment as a new trajectory and an opportunity to contribute his professional knowledge toward building a sustainable and economically viable Rivers State.
According to him, although he is not a career politician, he believes he has the expertise required to support the administration’s vision for development.
He attributed the opportunity to serve to divine grace and expressed readiness to work with other members of the executive council to advance the state’s growth and prosperity.
