The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to governance and the delivery of critical infrastructure, despite what he described as ongoing distractions confronting his government.
Governor Fubara gave the assurance on Wednesday during an inspection tour of ongoing road rehabilitation projects cutting across the Old Township, Borokiri axis and the Creek Road Market area in Port Harcourt.
Addressing the traders who came out in their numbers to welcome him, the governor explained that the rehabilitation of the Creek Road corridor is closely tied to the redevelopment of the market, which he described as key to restoring order, traffic flow and the aesthetic appeal of the city.

“What are we trying to do? You can see the difficulty driving through Creek Road and what is happening there. Because we don’t have good settlement for the market,” Fubara said.
“So if we fix this market, those trading along the streets will vacate and move inside the market. When they are inside, the road can be properly fixed and the beauty of the town will start reflecting.”
The governor stressed that his administration would not allow political distractions to derail its mandate, noting that the trust reposed in his government by the people of Rivers State remains his guiding principle.
“I promise our people that no matter the situation we are in, we will not lose focus on governance. Our people have given us this trust, and the little we owe them is to give them confidence in leadership and ensure that governance continues strongly,” he stated.
Governor Fubara was accompanied on the inspection by Engr. Michel Issa of Setraco Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the road projects. He described the reconstruction works as a linchpin for the sustainable development of the affected communities.
According to him, the provision of a modern market facility will bring an end to street trading, which currently obstructs traffic and contributes to the deterioration of road infrastructure.

Recalling an earlier visit to the area, the governor said his administration had made a deliberate commitment to restore Port Harcourt to its former ambience.
“You are aware that sometime last year I visited this place and I promised that because we want to bring back the beauty of the town to its old ambiance, the issue of people trading along Creek Road and most major streets in town would require fixing the market,” he said.
Fubara disclosed that contractors have already mobilised to the site, expressing confidence that construction work on the market project would commence within the next week.
