The Federal Government has given Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) a fresh push with the inauguration of a new Board of Directors, signaling a new chapter in the drive to expand digital services for everyday Nigerians.
Instead of focusing only on policies and plans, the government is now matching its digital talk with strong action. With the reconstituted board now in place, Nigerians can expect faster internet infrastructure, improved e-government services, and better digital tools for both public and private sectors.
At the inauguration event in Abuja, Senator Dr. George Akume, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, urged the new board to turn GBB into a more responsive and people-focused organization.
“Let’s work together to build something Nigerians can be proud of. Galaxy Backbone must lead the way in our digital journey,” Akume said.
For over a year, Galaxy Backbone operated without a formal board, but that didn’t stop the company from making progress. Its CEO, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, revealed that his team successfully designed a forward-looking digital roadmap known as the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) 2025–2028. The strategy includes modernizing Nigeria’s ICT backbone, using technologies like Artificial Intelligence, and strengthening cybersecurity.

Now, with a full board in place, GBB is better equipped to bring these ideas to life. Prof. Adeyanju expressed confidence in the board’s ability to guide the company through its next big phase.
“Nigeria’s digital future just got brighter,” he said.
As part of the day’s events, the new board toured GBB’s ultra-modern National Shared Services Centre, including its Data Centre and Security Operations Centre. Senator Akume praised the setup and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to using these resources to improve national service delivery.
The new board includes experts from various sectors, ensuring a wide range of perspectives. Members include representatives from federal ministries, key government institutions, and private sector professionals.
