The gruesome death of Hanifa Abubakar, a five-year-old pupil of a private school in Kano state, has drawn outrage from Nigerians, including President Muhammadu Buhari.
Nigerians are asking for instant Justice for Hanifa, whose dismembered body was found in a shallow grave on Thursday.
The little girl had been kidnapped since December 2021 by her headteacher, Abdulmalik Tanko, for ransom.
Social media influencers, celebrities, politicians and the general public joined the trend.
President Muhammadu Buhari, in his reaction, called on the relevant bodies to ensure Justice is served in the murder.
The President ordered the police and the Ministry of Justice to uphold the integrity of the detective work that busted the case by preparing well and presenting a good case that would earn the respect of the court.
In a statement by Garba Shehu, his media aide, the President condoled the Abubakar family for their loss.
Hanifa was a pupil of a private school – Noble Kids Academy in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, the police said.
Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesman for the Command in Kano, told newsmen that the teacher, Abdulmalik, confessed that he kidnapped Hanifa and took her to his house, where he contacted her relatives and demanded a ransom of N6 million.
He stated that he later conspired with one Hashim Isyaku to kill the girl on December 18, 2021, having realised that the victim had recognised him.
The teacher added that he laced the little girl’s tea with a rat poisoning worth N100.
Hanifa was buried in a shallow grave within the school premises located at Kwanar’ Yan Gana in Tudun Murtala Quarters.
