The Nigerian Senate has commenced an executive session following a formal request from President Bola Tinubu seeking constitutional approval for a state of emergency in Rivers State.
At the start of plenary, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved to reorder the order paper to accommodate the urgent request. However, Senator Seriake Dickson raised a point of order, referencing Senate rules that require a closed session for such deliberations.
Following a brief exchange, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, agreed, leading the lawmakers into a closed-door session to discuss the matter.
