Babcock Varsity Honours Rivers Health Commissioner, Dr. Oreh as Medical Elder (Pictorial)

The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, has been honoured as Medical Elder at the 2025 Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony of Newly Qualified Medical Doctors at Babcock University, Ogun State.

The induction, conducted under the supervision of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), is regarded as a major milestone for medical graduates. At every ceremony, a distinguished physician or surgeon is selected as Medical Elder to serve as a role model to the new doctors.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Oreh described the honour as “an absolute dream,” noting that it offered her the opportunity to inspire the Class of 2025, known as Orion X. She urged the young doctors to see themselves as active contributors to transforming Nigeria’s healthcare system.

She reminded them that “they are the determinants of their limitations, and that their careers can help redefine healthcare delivery in Nigeria.”

Dr. Oreh also praised the academic excellence of the awardees of the year. Dr. Chisom Okafor emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student with 10 distinctions, while Dr. Olayiwola Peace Oluwadamilola followed closely with 9 distinctions.

She expressed gratitude to the President/Vice Chancellor of Babcock University, the Principal Officers, and the Provost and Faculty of the Benjamin S. Carson (Snr) College of Health and Medical Sciences for granting her the recognition.

The induction ceremony marks the formal entry of new medical doctors into the profession and further underscores the importance of mentorship, excellence, and service in Nigeria’s health sector.
