To reduce the constant complaints of harassment from vehicle owners, the Nigeria Police Force has rolled out a simpler, fully online process for obtaining tinted glass permit.
For many Nigerians, owning a car with factory-fitted tinted windows has often come with unnecessary stress. From police stop-and-search operations to long queues at offices, the process of proving your tint is legal has been anything but easy. But now, the police say this is about to change.
With a new nine-step guide released on Wednesday, vehicle owners can now apply for a tinted glass permit right from the comfort of their homes. The application is done through the Police Specialised Services Automation Project portal at www.possap.gov.ng, using any of the following for identification: National Identification Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN), or Tax Identification Number (TIN).

After entering personal details, applicants will receive a verification code via email to activate their account. Once logged in, they can select the “Tinted Glass Permit” service, fill in vehicle information, and upload the required documents.

The police say applicants must also confirm the details are accurate, make the necessary payment, and then schedule a visit to a police inspection center for biometric capture and vehicle inspection. This marks the final stage of the process.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, noted that the move is in line with the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s directive to resume permit issuance nationwide. He said the goal is to make the process transparent, accessible, and to prevent unlawful stops on the road.

“This new system is not just about permits; it’s about restoring public trust,” Adejobi said.
The announcement comes after increasing public complaints about harassment by security agents, especially regarding tinted windows that come directly from the car manufacturers.
