“I Don’t Wish To Go Back” – Fubara Shocks Everyone In First Speech Since Suspension

In a surprising and emotional speech at the memorial event for elder statesmanLate Pa Edwin Clark, suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara stunned attendees when he openly declared that he no longer wishes to return to the Government House.

It was Fubara’s first public statement since the political tension that led to his suspension, and the governor used the opportunity to clear the air and redirect focus to the occasion at hand because, according to his excellency, he could be represented and accused of attacking those in power using his supporters.

“I’m not disputing the message God gave to you, my bishop,” he said, responding to a clergy message during the service. “But in this particular event, it’s a message to talk about Pa Clark. Because the way you hammered it, when they leave here, it will not be the same way they will present it. They will say Siminalayi Fubara has gathered his supporters to make statements against the Minister and the President. That is not what I need now.”

Fubara spoke calmly but firmly, making it clear that he was not interested in rejoining the ongoing political drama. “Some of you have asked yourselves: do you think I’m even interested to go back there?” he asked. “Don’t you see how better I look? If I have my way, I say it here, I’m on the altar of God — I don’t wish to go back there. My spirit has left that place long ago.”

The governor further explained that he is now more focused on peace and clarity than political battles and urged is supporters to do same. “I have peace,” he said. “If you have known me, if you have been seeing me, I look better now. There are some fights you don’t have to fight. You need to first ask the person: does he want it?”

While acknowledging the importance of continuing development in Rivers State, Fubara urged everyone to be careful and strategic. “Just because people have sacrificed for us doesn’t mean we should start firing without target. We need to be focused,” he warned.

He emphasized that the event was about honouring the legacy of Pa Edwin Clark and should not be turned into a political debate. “Our evening here is about Pa Clark. It’s not about Oshobe Fubara, Oshobe Sim!”

Ending on a firm note, he said, “Every other thing that is said here, every other admonition, is your personal view. It does not represent the purpose for this meeting.”
