A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has ordered the remand of Naomi Silekunola, organiser of the event that led to a tragic stampede incident that resulted in the death of 35 children, in custody at the Agodi correctional centre.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi, gave the order on Tuesday.
Also remanded were popular broadcaster and media partner Oriyomi Hamzat, as well as the principal of the school where the event took place.
SYMFONI NEWS reports that the trio was brought to court on Tuesday by men of the Oyo State Police Command.
The suspects were arraigned amidst heavy security.
SYMFONI NEWS also reports that the premises of the court were filled with relatives of the defendants and other interested parties.
The defendants were charged with four counts.
The police prosecutor argued that the offence committed by the defendants was contrary to Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
The case has been adjourned until January 13, as the court deemed it beyond its jurisdiction, but the defendants will remain in custody until the matter is revisited.
According to Counsel to the principal, Waheed Olajide, the court ordered the defendants to be held in custody pending their transfer to a higher court
He expressed readiness to proceed to a higher court.
