The Rivers State Government has denied fake news reports claiming that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, were summoned to a meeting at the Government House.
In a statement made available to AIT on Wednesday, the government described the announcement as fake and warned the public to disregard it. The publication, which circulated widely on social media, was falsely attributed to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo.
“This is a malicious attempt to mislead the public and cause panic in the state,” the statement said, adding that no such summons was issued by any official government source.
The government said the fake memo was just one of many being spread by individuals bent on stirring confusion and disrupting the peace in Rivers State.
To combat this fake news report, the state reiterated that only its verified communication channels should be trusted. These include the official Rivers State Government website, recognised social media accounts, and official press releases from the Governor’s Office and the Secretary to the State Government.
