IgniteHer: NITDA Fulfills Tinubu’s Dream, Empowers Nigerian Women with Digital Skills

In a bold move to boost female entrepreneurship in Nigeria, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has kicked off the second round of its IgniteHer Bootcamp, a digital skills training programme designed specifically for the Nigerian women.

In fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the initiative aims to create more opportunities for women by teaching them how to use technology for business growth and innovation.

Held in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the bootcamp brings together selected female entrepreneurs from across Nigeria, both online and in person for hands-on training in digital literacy, business strategy, innovation and how to attract investors.

Speaking at the launch, NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa (represented by Dr. Ahmed Tambuwal), said the programme is more than just skills training.
“We are not merely imparting skills; we are creating self-reliant entrepreneurs, change-makers, and leaders,” he stated, adding that IgniteHer is a core part of Nigeria’s National Gender Digital Inclusion Strategy, which aims to train 12.7 million women by 2027.

The DG explained that by closing the digital gender gap, Nigeria could gain up to $13 billion in GDP growth over the next 10 years.
“Through IgniteHer, we are dismantling barriers and replacing them with pathways to opportunity,” Inuwa affirmed.

On the other hand, the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Matsunaga Kazuyoshi, also shared his country’s support for innovation and gender inclusion in Nigeria. He revealed that Japan is currently backing two major projects worth over $30 million to boost Nigeria’s startup space and investment climate.

Lead facilitator of the programme, Hajiya Hafsat Salabi-Dange, encouraged the women to take full advantage of the bootcamp, saying:
“What you will gain here goes beyond business; it is a tool for community upliftment, national growth, and generational impact.”

With over 12,000 women applying to be part of the programme, the IgniteHer Bootcamp is proving to be a powerful movement towards closing the digital divide and uplifting women across the country.
