The Nigeria Immigration Service has rolled out the enhanced e-passport and commissioned the passport production centre in Port Harcourt.
This is to meet the demand for e-passports in the states at a centralised zonal office, as Rivers state covers four states, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola said.
Aregbesola stated that “the significance of a passport cannot be overemphasised, as it’s the right of every citizen to have a valid passport, and it’s of a higher grade than the one in existence.”
He stated that the new e-passport will take 6 weeks to be issued, stating that there will be no more waiting to get a passport anywhere. He admonished the citizens to commence processing a new passport six months before the expiry date on an old passport.
“Anyone can apply online anywhere and locate the nearest immigration passport office in any of the states to get captured, and don’t patronise touts or overzealous staff to get a passport.”
The Minister appreciated Governor Nyesom Wike and urged him not to relent in his assistance to all agencies under the Ministry of Interior.
In his response, the Governor of Rivers State, who is ably represented by the Deputy Governor Dr Mrs Ipalibo Banigo, assured the minister that the Rivers State government is in support of any positive reform by the ministry to move the state forward.
