Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Paul Emeziem has been impeached.
Emeziem was impeached by 19 out of the 27 members of the state Assembly in Owerri on Monday.
The former Speaker was impeached following the unanimous decision by the 19 members in a signed letter read on the floor of the house.
The majority of Lawmakers in the letter accused the former Speaker of gross misconduct and abuse of office; an allegation, Emeziem is yet to defend.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Ibeh who is the member representing Obowo State Constituency was elected and sworn in immediately as the new Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly.
“Lawmakers decided to impeach the former speaker on allegations of gross misconduct, forgery, abuse of office and high handedness,” Ibeh said.

The Assembly has had two speakers in the space of 18 months accompanied by violence and instability in the Imo State Legislative arm of government.
