Nsukka, Enugu State — A group of respected South-East elders from Enugu North Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid—but not without laying out a clear list of demands they want addressed before then.
Gathered under the South-East Elders Alliance for Tinubu 2027, the leaders praised President Tinubu for recognizing sons and daughters of the South-East with notable federal appointments. However, they used the platform to call for stronger economic policies, improved security, and constitutional reforms.
The group was inaugurated on Wednesday in Nsukka, and shortly after, issued a communique highlighting both their support and expectations. They argued that President Tinubu’s leadership had brought unprecedented federal recognition to the Nsukka zone, pointing out key appointments such as that of Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff and Frank Mba as Deputy Inspector General of Police.
“Never in our history have we seen this level of federal inclusion for the Nsukka people,” said Prof. Chuka Ezema, the group’s Strategy Coordinator. “We are grateful, but we also have our people’s concerns at heart.”
Among their top demands is a call for the creation of new states in Nigeria. The elders urged Tinubu to initiate a constitutional amendment that would allow for this—stating it would cement his legacy as a historic reformer.
“Let him be remembered as the first civilian President under whom new states were created,” said Hon. Humphrey Nsofor, National Coordinator of the group. “It would correct decades of imbalance and bring governance closer to the people.”
In addition to political restructuring, the group emphasized the urgent need to address Nigeria’s economic crisis. They called on Tinubu to stabilize the naira and revamp the subsidy system to reduce the cost of fuel and curb food inflation.

“There is hunger in the land,” Dr. Anthony Alumona, the group’s Administrative Coordinator, said plainly. “Nigerians are struggling. We plead with the President to act fast.”
On insecurity, the elders suggested an innovative solution—establishing a Digital Response Unit within Nigeria’s security system. They believe this would harness the digital talents of young Nigerians to tackle growing threats more efficiently.

While the group’s support for Tinubu in 2027 is clear, they maintained that their loyalty must also come with accountability.
“Support is not a blank cheque,” said Prof. Damian Opata, Deputy National Coordinator. “It is based on the hope that our concerns will be addressed and that the President will finish what he started—strong.”
In closing, the elders called on all Nigerians, regardless of region or party, to consider supporting Tinubu’s second term, saying it would help maintain national balance and complete the Southern presidency mandate.
They prayed for wisdom and strength for the President, and promised to continue championing unity and progress across the South-East.
