A prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Babachir Lawal, has declared that the party and its supporters are ready for a fierce political battle against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking after a high-level consultative meeting of northern stakeholders, Lawal revealed that the gathering was aimed at finding solutions to the challenges confronting the region and ensuring that the North rallies behind a candidate who genuinely represents its interests.
“It is a meeting of northerners, specifically to discuss as a family the problems bedeviling the North and how to look for solutions. We are preparing for the oncoming election to ensure we elect only somebody who has the interest of the North at heart and will address the challenges facing us,” he stated.
According to him, stakeholders unanimously agreed that the current government has failed to tackle key issues such as infrastructure, security, and economic stability. As a result, the North must “take the bull by the horns” and unite for political change.

Lawal disclosed that what began as a northern political consultative forum has now evolved into a mass movement under the ADC platform. “As the momentum grew, it became clear that the North had decided to join ADC. The distinction between the consultative group and ADC has blurred. Our people have mandated us to organize ourselves to deliver victory through the ADC,” he added.
He stressed that the ADC will uphold democratic principles, conducting congresses and conventions to elect its candidates, irrespective of region. “Whoever emerges from our democratic process, whether North, South, East, or West, will have our full support,” he said.
Responding to concerns that votes might not count, Lawal dismissed such fears as propaganda, insisting that the ADC will safeguard the integrity of the electoral process. “Nobody in ADC believes votes do not count. This election, votes will count. Forget about those saying otherwise. Whatever malicious tactics APC throws at us, we will counter them effectively,” he vowed
