Jonathan Celebrates IBB at 84, Hails His Role in Nigeria’s Unity and Development

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), also known as IBB, on the occasion of his 84th birthday, describing him as a remarkable leader whose contributions to Nigeria’s unity and national development remain significant.

In a goodwill message issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, Dr. Jonathan praised Babangida’s leadership, noting that his impact on Nigeria’s political and economic landscape continues to shape the nation’s history.

“On this special occasion of your 84th birthday, I celebrate your remarkable life, leadership, and dedication to our nation’s growth and progress,” Jonathan stated.

Highlighting Babangida’s tenure as Head of State from 1985 to 1993, Jonathan commended his efforts in stabilising Nigeria during turbulent periods and guiding the country through major economic and political transformations.

“Through your efforts in stabilising the nation during challenging times and guiding Nigeria through critical periods, you have left an indelible mark in our history,” he added.

The former President expressed optimism that Babangida’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations to uphold the values of unity, peace, and sustainable development.

Jonathan also extended personal wishes to the elder statesman,

“On behalf of my family, I extend my warmest wishes for long life in good health, happiness, and continued blessings.”

General Ibrahim Babangida, popularly known as IBB, remains one of Nigeria’s most influential leaders, with his policies and reforms still the subject of national discussions decades after leaving office
