The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the suspension of several senior officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Organising Secretary Umar Bature, and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN).
In a judgment delivered on Monday, the appellate court upheld the earlier decision of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to suspend the officials over allegations of anti-party activities and violations of the PDP constitution.
The ruling effectively dismisses the legal challenge filed by the affected officers, who had sought to overturn the disciplinary action and regain their positions within the party.
According to the lead judgment, the court emphasized that political parties have the constitutional right to manage their internal affairs, including disciplining members who are found to have acted contrary to party rules.
The court therefore validated the disciplinary process carried out by the PDP leadership, stating that the party acted within the powers granted by its constitution.
