The Take It Back (TIB) Movement has warned that any attempt by security agencies to detain its convener, Omoyele Sowore, will be met with what it described as “immediate, nationwide mass action.”
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon, the movement said it had received credible information that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police invited Sowore reportedly over the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest and other legitimate political activities.
According to the group, Sowore honoured the invitation but has yet to return as of the time the statement was issued.
“We wish to categorically warn that any form of detention, harassment, or intimidation of Sowore by the Nigeria Police Force or any arm of the Tinubu regime will be met with immediate, nationwide mass action,” the statement read in part.
The group described Sowore as a renowned human rights activist and voice of conscience for millions of Nigerians, insisting that he is “not a criminal.”
“The Tinubu-led regime must understand that this is not 1984, and Nigerians will not sit idly while their rights to dissent and protest are trampled upon,” the group added.
The movement stressed that the right to peaceful protest is constitutionally guaranteed, warning that no administration has the legal authority to suppress it.
It further demanded Sowore’s immediate and unconditional release, threatening to mobilize citizens across the country for sustained protests and civil disobedience if he is not released.
“We hold the Commissioner of Police, the Inspector General of Police, and the Tinubu regime fully responsible for the safety and well-being of Omoyele Sowore,” the statement concluded.
