President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
A statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, July 31, 2025, confirmed that the extension will take effect from August 31, 2025, when Adeniyi’s current tenure was originally set to end.
According to the release signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the move is aimed at allowing Mr. Adeniyi to “consolidate ongoing reforms” in the Customs Service.
Mr. Adeniyi is expected to complete several key initiatives during the extension, including the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, the full implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the AfCFTA protocol.
President Tinubu, while acknowledging Mr. Adeniyi’s “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” expressed confidence that the extension would help the Nigeria Customs Service achieve its core goals of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
Mr. Adeniyi was appointed Comptroller-General of Customs in 2023 and has since led several policy and structural reforms aimed at repositioning the agency for improved efficiency
