The Federal Government has declared several Boko Haram inmates who escaped from Kuje prison in Abuja wanted.
The Kuje Prison was attacked by heavily armed terrorists who gained entrance into the prison complex by blowing up a perimeter fence of the yard through the rear.
Several prisoners including hardened terrorists detained at the facility and awaiting trial escaped with the attackers.
President Buhari who said that he was expecting a comprehensive report on the attack, also asked to know what guards on duty did when the terrorists struck.
“How many personnel did you have on duty? How many of them were armed? Were there guards on the watchtower? What did they do? Does the CCTV work?”, he queried.
But Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, said terrorists detained at the prison made their way out.
Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, also said the insurgents came “very prepared” with explosives.
On Friday, the federal government released the names and photos of the fleeing inmates.
The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) had claimed responsibility for the attack.
