Uneasy quiet now pervades the Kano Emirate Council as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has hinted at the possibility of reversing the removal of ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the Emir of Kano.
Kwankwaso, a presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), had led his party to sack the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the ruling party in Kano.
With the May 29 inauguration of his son-in-law, Abba Kabir Yusuf, as the next governor of Kano, Kwankwaso said the opportunity now exists to review the removal of Sanusi as Emir.
He stated that the situation created in Kano at the time by Gov. Umar Ganduje made it difficult for some elders of the state to intervene.
In a report monitored on Daily Trust, Kwankwaso was said to have spoken in a video recording that has now gone viral on social media.
According to the report, Kwankwao argued that Sanusi’s dethronement and banishment from the emirate “would be reviewed by the government of Abba Kabir Yusuf.”
“We have campaigned, and as you know, we are popular in Nigeria, especially in Kano state; we are now back, and God willing, we will continue with the good works our administration left. This incoming governor and his team will take them up.
“As elders, we will continue to advise them to do the right thing. We tried not to intervene in the issue of bringing or removing any Emir, but now, an opportunity has come.
“Those given this opportunity will sit down and see to the issues. They will look at what they are expected to do. Besides the Emir, even the emirate has been divided into five places. All these need to be studied. Usually, a leader inherits good, bad, and issues that are hard to reconcile.”
