The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a trending social media narrative alleging that a police inspector seen being beaten in a widely circulated video was caught stealing. In a statement released on December 11, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described the viral claim as false and misleading.
According to the Command, the officer in the video is a Taskforce Inspector who was on lawful duty along Brown Street, Oshodi, enforcing the state government’s ban on wrong parking. Trouble began when he stopped a motorist attempting to park illegally. The motorist became violent, sparking a heated confrontation.
During the altercation, the Inspector accidentally discharged shots onto the road, causing debris to injure some passersby. The incident quickly attracted a mob that violently attacked the officer, leaving him with serious injuries.
The Lagos Police Command confirmed that the Inspector has been subjected to disciplinary measures for his unprofessional conduct. Meanwhile, thirteen suspects seen in the viral video assaulting the officer have been arrested. They remain in custody and will be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigations. Those arrested include:
Dele Oriade (39), Adekunle Olalere (40), Mudashiru Olamilekan (28), Anayo Achusie (34), Joshua Enwonyin (24), Okoro Okechukwu (26), Rilwan Lateef (32), Damilare Odebode (22), Haruna Aleshi (25), Sodiq Omoniyi (26), Chukwudi Patience (25), Godstime Okafor (26), and Chinedu Divine (29).

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, condemned both the officer’s misconduct and the mob’s criminal assault. He warned that attacks on law enforcement officers performing lawful duties will not be tolerated and remain punishable under the law.
The Command urged Lagos residents to refrain from spreading misinformation and continue supporting the police in maintaining peace and order across the state.
