Electoral reform analyst and Political commentator, Randy-Peter Akah has delivered a scathing critique of Senator Adams Oshiomhole following the circulation of a leaked video that showed the former Edo State governor massaging the leg of an unidentified woman on a private jet.
Speaking as a guest on Naija Unfiltered by Symfoni, Peter described the incident as symptomatic of misplaced priorities and a culture of impunity among Nigeria’s political elite, highlighting what he called the senator’s disregard for national duties.
While Oshiomhole’s supporters claimed that the video was generated using artificial intelligence (AI). Oshiomhole later issued a statement to explain the leaked video, claiming the woman was a foreign consultant he engaged to enhance Nigeria’s image abroad, and that the massage occurred while assisting her during a moment of physical discomfort on the flight.
Peter dismissed this explanation as implausible and insulting, arguing that the episode is not merely a private matter but a reflection of how public office holders misuse privileges while ignoring critical national responsibilities. “If he put the same intelligence and attention into the budget or the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, Nigeria would have better governance and real-time election result transmission,” Peter commented, referencing the recently passed electoral amendment bill signed by the National Assembly, rejecting mandatory real-time transmission of results to ensure transparent and credible elections.

Using the incident as a springboard, Peter criticized the broader political system in Nigeria, arguing that the Senate and other government institutions are populated by officials with questionable ethics who often fail the electorate. “Instead of allowing the best to lead, we allow the worst to rule and mislead the rest,” he said, pointing to cases where politicians with corruption or criminal backgrounds still rise to power.
The political analyst also condemned the nation’s fixation on symbolic gestures, such as celebrating the First Lady’s attendance at a US prayer breakfast, while insecurity, economic hardship, and governance failures continue to affect ordinary Nigerians. He argued that leadership should focus on substantive national issues rather than public relations stunts.
These controversies highlights the growing public frustration with governance and accountability in Nigeria. With the 2027 general elections approaching, debates over ethical leadership, legislative responsibility, and electoral reforms are getting more intensified.
