“I Don’t Wish To Go Back” – Fubara Shocks Everyone In First Speech Since Suspension

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged his supporters to step back from confrontational politics and embrace a calmer, wiser approach as the state navigates its current political challenges.

Speaking at a ‘Night of Tributes in honour of late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark’, Governor Fubara made it clear that now is not the time for heated rhetoric or aggressive actions. Instead, he called for restraint, patience and a commitment to peaceful reconciliation.

The event, held at the Royal House of Grace Church in Port Harcourt, brought together prominent Rivers leaders to remember Chief Clark’s legacy. But for Governor Fubara, it was also a moment to reflect on the state’s political direction and the kind of leadership Rivers people need now.

“I sometimes ask myself if those who claim to speak for me are truly helping the situation,” he said, noting that some of their words and actions only deepen the crisis. “We need to focus on the real goal – peace, stability, and moving our state forward.”

Others who spoke at the event included former Governor of the State, and Chairman, Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum, Chief Rufus Ada George, former Deputy Governor of the State, Sir Gabriel Toby, Senator Benneth Birabi, Prof Atuboyedia Obianime, Prof Steve Azaiki, Ms Ann Kio Briggs, Bishop Elkanah Hanson, Senator Andrew Uchendu, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, Prof Roseline Konya, and Senator John Azuta Mbata. They also praised Chief Clark’s lifelong commitment to fairness and integrity. They also applauded President Bola Tinubu for his ongoing efforts to stabilize the state and called for more decisive steps to end the political unrest.
