In a fresh move to unite the people of Rivers State and drive meaningful development, the State’s Administrator, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas, has made a passionate call to the youths to step forward and become active players in shaping the state’s future.
Rather than dwell on the politics dividing the state, the Administrator is turning attention to the power of young people to build peace and lead innovation.
Speaking during a meeting with youth leaders and stakeholders, led by the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Nwisabari Bani, Vice Admiral Ibas said it was time to involve the youth not just as beneficiaries, but as active partners in rebuilding Rivers State.
He explained that his administration’s plan for youth development would focus on four key areas: education, professional skills training, economic empowerment, and digital inclusion.
“Our young people must be equipped for the world we live in today,” he said. “They need skills, job opportunities, and access to the digital space. We are laying a foundation that will make Rivers State a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.”

But beyond development goals, the retired naval chief emphasized his desire to bring people together. He stated that his administration remains neutral in the ongoing political tensions in the state and is committed to upholding the law and giving every citizen—no matter their political belief—a voice in shaping Rivers’ future.
“I’m not here to pick sides,” he declared. “I’m here to listen, build peace, and bring everyone to the table.”

According to him, ongoing dialogue with traditional leaders, civil society, and civil servants is already helping identify the real needs of the people, and those conversations will continue.
For Vice Admiral Ibas, peace isn’t just a slogan—it’s a strategy. “We will not stop working for reconciliation and mutual understanding,” he said. “Healing old wounds is essential for the progress of our state.”
The meeting, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, ended on a hopeful note. Comrade Nwisabari Bani thanked the Administrator for his inclusive approach and pledged the full support of Rivers youths.
“You’ve given us a voice,” Bani said. “We will stand with you to rebuild Rivers State together.”
