A terrible road accident has occurred near Saminaka town in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, claiming the lives of over 35 persons who were travelling to celebrate Maulud.
The takeoff destination of the victims was not clear at the time of this report, but it was believed that they were heading to Jos, Plateau State for the celebration.
The victims were said to be on board a J5 bus that collided head-on with an articulated vehicle on the highway.
According to Malam Abdullahi, one of the organizers of the Maulud celebration, the accident disrupted their plans.
Abdullahi disclosed, “We had around 70 people, including women and children, in our entourage. I personally counted the victims. It was a heartbreaking scene.”
Abdullahi stated that the injured, numbering over 35, have been transported to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) in nearby Plateau State, for medical treatment.
Additionally, another vehicle in their convoy was involved in a separate accident with a motorcycle, resulting in fatalities and various injuries.
The authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
The accident has left the community in mourning mode, an eyewitness noted.
