PDP Zoning Decision: A Misstep That Cedes Opposition Status to ADC – Fabiyi

A key stakeholder in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Oladimeji Fabiyi, has criticized the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, declaring that the party has lost its status as Nigeria’s leading opposition.

In a statement released to the media on Monday, Fabiyi congratulated the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for emerging as the country’s foremost opposition party. Fabiyi described the PDP’s zoning decision as a grave error, calling it “deliberately mischievous” and driven by the interests of a greedy few rather than the nation’s welfare. “When a party prioritizes an individual’s wishes over collective interests, it is doomed,” Fabiyi stated, pointing to the PDP’s current trajectory.

He argued that the decision, influenced by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a few others aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is a strategic move to field a weaker candidate in 2027, paving the way for President Tinubu’s re-election. “By zoning the presidency to the South at its 102nd NEC meeting, the PDP has confirmed its role as an extension of the APC,” Fabiyi asserted. “The ADC now stands as Nigeria’s only credible opposition and a viable alternative to the failing APC government.”

Fabiyi urged the ADC to seize this opportunity by strengthening its internal structure and providing a robust opposition that inspires Nigerians’ confidence. He praised the ADC’s visionary leadership for establishing a coalition platform, describing it as a critical alternative for the country.

In closing, Fabiyi called on Nigerians to rally behind the ADC to deliver good governance and democratic progress. “Nigerians must wake up, stand firm, and support the ADC to achieve the development we urgently need,” he said
