Prominent singer, actress, and journalist, Ms Onyeka Onwenu, is dead.
She died Tuesday evening in Lagos, aged 72.
The songwriter and social activist was said to have slumped after a performance at the 80th birthday celebration of her friend and founder of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Chief Stella Okoli.
Following the incident, Ms Onwenu was said to have been rushed to the Reddington Hospital, where she eventually died.
Dubbed “Elegant Stallion” by the Nigerian press, the singer was born on January 31, 1952.
She was in 2013 appointed the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
