Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has directed the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to immediately assume control of the state’s 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling nullifying the October 5, 2024, local government elections.
Governor Fubara, in a statewide address on Sunday, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding the constitution, due process, and the rule of law. He assured the people of Rivers State that his government would study the Supreme Court’s verdict— which also barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from releasing the state’s monthly federal allocation— and implement it accordingly.
“We will abide by the law in all our decisions and ensure that governance in Rivers State remains stable,” Fubara stated.
To provide further clarity on the state’s next steps, Governor Fubara will make a live broadcast today at 6:00 PM, where he is expected to outline his administration’s response to the judgment and plans for fresh local government elections.
Rivers residents and stakeholders are urged to tune in for the governor’s full address as the state navigates this critical legal and administrative transition.
