The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has dismissed widespread social media rumours alleging that its Managing Director and renowned actor, Dr. Ali Nuhu, has died.
The speculation began after a Facebook user, Ifeoma Chigbo, shared a video claiming that Nuhu had passed away. The video quickly gained traction, with some posts even alleging that the veteran filmmaker died in a fatal car accident.
However, in an official statement issued on Monday by the NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, the corporation described the reports as false, malicious, and injurious to the reputation of its Managing Director.
“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation has been drawn to the purported passing of Dr. Ali Nuhu, its current Managing Director/Chief Executive, being orchestrated within the social media space. The reports, including videos laced with the pictures of Dr. Ali Nuhu, are not only malicious but false in their entirety,” the statement read.
The corporation stressed that Nuhu is alive, healthy, and actively performing his official duties, having been appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 12, 2024.
The NFC also warned that actions are being taken against individuals responsible for spreading the fake news, cautioning that there would be consequences for such acts of misinformation.

“Appropriate measures have been initiated to address this ugly and unsatisfactory trend. NFC wishes to draw the attention of perpetrators of these acts, including their sponsors, to the dire consequences of their actions,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the corporation expressed gratitude to members of the public, industry stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians who showed concern following the viral rumours.
