Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has raised the alarm over what he describes as Nigeria’s slide into economic and political collapse under President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during the launch of two books — ‘The Bubbles of Nigerian Democracy and Wadata Wonders’ by veteran journalist E.K. Abonyi, Secondus said Nigeria’s democracy is broken, and the country is heading towards “liquidation.”
He said: “Our democracy is broken. Today, people jump from one political party to another as if it’s normal. This is a sign of a system that has failed.”
Secondus stressed that real political parties should be stable institutions where members stay for decades to build structures, like the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa. But he lamented that in Nigeria, parties only exist to win elections, not to strengthen democracy.
He stated: “What we have is not democracy. We only have platforms to win elections. After that, there’s no plan or system to build our country.”
On the country’s current situation, Secondus issued a serious warning:
“Our country is gradually moving in the wrong direction. Nigeria is on the verge, or already in liquidation, presided over by Bola Tinubu.”

Secondus further blamed weak political parties and lack of true democracy for Nigeria’s challenges, saying that until Nigerians build strong parties and institutions, the country will continue to struggle:
“The problems in our country are too big for one person to solve alone. We need everyone to come together to fix them.”
He praised the author, E.K. Abonyi, for writing books that document the state of Nigerian democracy. He said these books will help younger generations understand Nigeria’s problems and encourage them to find solutions.
Secondus concluded by thanking the organizers of the book launch and called on Nigerians to reflect on the state of the nation. He said:
“These books will help young people rethink and come up with ideas to save our country. If we don’t build strong institutions, we leave nothing for the future.”
The event, which took place at the PDP’s Wadata Plaza in Abuja, attracted several party leaders, journalists, and party members who came to celebrate the author’s contribution to documenting Nigeria’s democratic journey.
