Omoyele Sowore has cautioned Nigerians against embracing calls for the United States to launch military action in Nigeria — an idea allegedly framed as a move to “protect Christians.” He argued that such thinking is dangerous and historically counterproductive, noting that no foreign power has ever sustainably solved another nation’s internal crises.
Sowore stressed that whether one is Christian, Muslim, traditionalist, or non-religious, it is misguided to believe that the United States or any external actor would “save” Nigeria. He referenced the track record of U.S. interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria — countries that were left more unstable, violent, and fractured than before.
According to him, Nigeria’s core crisis is leadership failure — not the absence of foreign military assistance. “What we need is legitimate, accountable leadership that protects every citizen,” he argued, emphasizing that cycles of corruption, injustice, and state-enabled violence have weakened the nation from the inside.
Sowore insisted that the solution will not come from foreign governments or global powers, especially those who act in pursuit of their strategic and economic interests rather than humanitarian goodwill. He maintained that former U.S. President Donald Trump — despite his public rhetoric — has no real concern for Nigerians, Christians, Muslims, or any religious group.
“Our deliverance will not come from abroad,” Sowore argued. “It must come from within — through real leadership, not from the Tinubus of this world, and not through foreign bombs or boots on the ground.”
He called on Nigerians to stop outsourcing their future and instead demand governance that protects lives, ensures justice, and rebuilds trust in national institutions.
