Nigeria Police Record Major Wins Against Crime - Over 3,000 Suspects Arrested, 278 Stolen Vehicles Recovered

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced sweeping nationwide successes in its fight against crime, highlighting the resilience and dedication of officers across the country.

In the past month alone, police operatives arrested 533 homicide suspects, 143 for illegal firearms possession, 371 for sexual offenses, 590 cultists, and over 3,200 other suspects linked to various crimes. The force also recovered 337 firearms, more than 4,400 rounds of ammunition, 278 stolen vehicles, and successfully rescued 283 kidnapped victims.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun said the achievements reflect the NPF’s vision of building a professionally competent force that can effectively respond to Nigeria’s complex security challenges. He assured Nigerians that the police remain committed to safeguarding lives and property while consolidating on recent gains.

One of the most significant breakthroughs came in the fight against gun running. Several suspects, including Gerald Ibrahim, Sama Assan, Usman Ashimo, and Tambimball, were arrested in Adamawa, Taraba, and Plateau States with dangerous weapons. Among the items recovered were AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, pistols, and hundreds of rounds of live ammunition.

The police also recorded success in tackling human trafficking. A female suspect, Jane Anoda, was arrested in Rivers State following a report by the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs. She confessed to child trafficking and led operatives to the rescue of four children, two of whom were immediately reunited with their families.

In another operation, the police arrested a kidnap suspect, Haladu Haruna, in Adamawa State. He was linked to the abduction of a victim who was held for eight days and released after a ₦5 million ransom was paid. Weapons used in the crime, including rifles and ammunition, were also recovered.

The Force further carried out mop-up operations across Adamawa, Taraba, and Plateau States between July and August 2025, recovering a cache of weapons ranging from rifles to pistols and revolvers.

The IGP emphasized that breaking the supply chain of illegal arms is critical to weakening criminal networks. He stressed that intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency collaboration are already yielding results. Calling on Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperative with security agencies, he noted that with the steadfast commitment of officers and the active support of citizens, the police will sustain momentum and build a safer and more secure nation.
