The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) over a recent statement by its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, declaring there would be “no vacancy in Aso Rock” come 2027.
Describing the remark as arrogant, undemocratic, and disrespectful, the ADC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said Nigeria’s presidency is not a hereditary throne, but a position that must be earned through credible performance and renewed public trust.
According to the opposition party, the APC’s statement reveals an unhealthy mindset that undermines the people’s right to vote and choose their leaders.
“The Presidency is not a family inheritance. Every incumbent must reapply through the ballot box,” Abdullahi stated in a press release issued Tuesday.
The ADC accused the APC of trying to mock the hardship currently faced by millions of Nigerians, citing rising hunger, insecurity, joblessness, and a struggling economy.
“To say ‘no vacancy’ is to spit in the face of suffering Nigerians. It’s a slap to the unemployed graduate, the mother who can’t feed her child, and the business owner battling economic hardship,” the ADC declared.
The party said Nigerians are eager for 2027, when they will evaluate President Tinubu’s administration based on key performance indicators such as security, employment, justice, electricity supply, and the economy.
Abdullahi further stressed that no amount of government propaganda or self-congratulation will erase the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians.
“President Tinubu must reapply for the job. He must show why Nigerians should trust him again, despite the pain his policies have caused.”

The ADC urged all political actors to respect the democratic process and avoid statements that suggest elections are a formality or that votes do not matter.
“No party has the right to pre-empt the people’s decision. In 2027, Nigerians will decide – not the APC Chairman.”
