The Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have kicked off a bold initiative to equip Nigerian youths with future-ready digital skills.
The data protec, launched in Abuja by the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, and the NDPC National Commissioner, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, will train over 5,000 young Nigerians in data protection, digital literacy, and privacy management.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Olawande said the training is part of the government’s commitment to empower young Nigerians with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital economy. “This is not just about training; it is about creating opportunities for the future,” he said, praising NDPC for its strong partnership in making the project possible.
Dr. Olatunji stressed the growing global demand for Data Protection Officers (DPOs), noting that the era of job hunting after NYSC is gradually ending. “Data protection is the new gold. Opportunities are everywhere, and young people must take this seriously,” he urged.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s eight-point agenda, focusing on job creation and youth empowerment through digital skills.
Present at the launch were top government officials, including Mrs Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination; Hon. Adedeji Stanley, Chairman House Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity; and Mr. Olusanya Olubunmi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
The training programme promises to open new career paths for Nigerian youths, making them key players in the fast-growing digital economy.
