The Oko community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State has concluded arrangements for the burial and final rites of passage of its late traditional Prime Minister (Onowu), Ichie Martin Ezeosim, who passed on at the age of 78.
The burial, jointly announced by the Igwe of Oko, HRH Prof. Laz Ekwueme (Eze Ijikala II), the Oko People’s Union (OPU), and the family of the deceased, is scheduled to hold on October 9, 2025.
According to the programme, the late Onowu Oko will be laid to rest at his country home in Eziabo Village, Oko, following a Christian burial service. A major event in his honour will also take place at the Alex Ekwueme Civic Centre, Oko, where dignitaries, government officials, and members of the community are expected to gather for a befitting farewell.
To ensure a successful ceremony, a burial committee headed by Chief Larry Iloh, a member of the Oko Council of Chiefs, has been inaugurated, with sub-committees handling different aspects of the rites.
In his condolence message, Igwe Prof. Ekwueme described the late Onowu as “an illustrious, reliable and hardworking community leader whose life of service greatly advanced the development of Oko.” He urged the committee to ensure that the late traditional prime minister receives a befitting farewell.
Similarly, President of OPU, Nze Sunday Nwafor, praised Ezeosim for living a simple Christian life marked by courage, humility, and leadership, describing him as a role model worthy of emulation.
On his part, the Burial Committee Chairman, Chief Iloh, assured that the committee would “leave no stone unturned to ensure sons, daughters, and friends of Oko Community turn up to pay their last respects.”
The late Ichie Martin Ezeosim served as the Onowu of Oko for many years, standing as the second-in-command to the Igwe, and left behind a legacy of dedication to peace, unity, and progress in the community.
