Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has introduced a new standard measuring bowl, ‘Osunwon Imole,’ to ensure fairness in trade across markets in the state. The governor, represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, launched the initiative in Osogbo on Monday, urging traders to embrace the new standard to protect the interests of both buyers and sellers.
Speaking at the unveiling, Adeleke highlighted the widespread use of inaccurate measuring tools in markets, which has led to financial losses and a lack of trust in business transactions. He explained that ‘Osunwon Imole’ was designed to solve this problem by providing a reliable and uniform measuring standard for traders.
“For years, many traders, knowingly or unknowingly, have used inaccurate measures that shortchange consumers and create unnecessary losses,” the governor stated. “Recognizing this challenge, our administration has taken decisive action by introducing Osunwon Imole to restore fairness in trade and protect the interests of all stakeholders.”
Adeleke emphasized the importance of standardization in economic development, noting that it builds trust, improves efficiency, and makes markets more competitive. He said the introduction of ‘Osunwon Imole’ signified the government’s commitment to upholding quality and integrity in commerce.
He further assured market men and women that the initiative would eliminate discrepancies in measurement, promote transparency, and strengthen trust between buyers and sellers. “The Osunwon Imole will serve as a reliable and accurate measuring tool for our market traders, ensuring consistency in trade practices. This will not only benefit individuals but also contribute to the overall economic stability of our state,” he added.

Adeleke called on traders, including Iyalojas, Babalojas, Egbe-Olowo, and other stakeholders who rely on measuring bowls for business, to support the initiative. He stressed that their cooperation was crucial for the successful implementation of ‘Osunwon Imole’ across all markets in Osun State.
The State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Bunmi Jenyo, also spoke at the event, assuring traders that the government would oversee the proper implementation of the new system. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to improving trade fairness and economic development in the state.
