DNA Test: A family dispute over inheritance has reached the Edo State High Courti in Benin City, as two children of the late Engineer George Idah, former Chairman of Oredo Local Government Area, are questioning the rightful heirs to his estate.
The suit, filed by Mark and Omoruyi Idah, is not just about who gets what—it’s about who truly belongs. In court documents marked B/233/2025, the siblings are asking the court to step in and determine whether Chief Osaro Idah, a respected Benin Palace Chief, is legally entitled to claim a share of their father’s estate.

Their main argument? That Chief Osaro never had a confirmed biological or legally recognized relationship with their father during his lifetime. They insist that, based on both Benin native law and customs, there was no paternity acknowledgment or established family ties between their late father and the defendant.
In an unusual legal twist, the siblings want the court to order a DNA test—or any other scientifically valid test—to determine whether Chief Osaro is truly the biological son of the late Engr. Idah. Until that happens, they also want the court to stop him from calling himself the first son or laying claim to the estate.
