Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, former Spokesman, Ijaw Youth Council and Secretary of the ‘New Associates’ has called out the Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri for allegedly trying to stop the solidarity rally organized by “The New Associates,”Bayelsa Chapter, in appreciation of Nigeria President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking to Symfoni TV at the rally ground, Ekerefe expressed disappointment in the State Governor, Odili for trying to sabotage the planned rally for the President, particularly seeing that he claimed to support Tinubuu when the first lady visited the Ogbia Local Government Area of the State. He wondered why the same governor would now allegedly move against youths showing similar support.
Ekerefe, has strongly criticized Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, accusing him of attempting to intimidate law-abiding citizens who gathered peacefully in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“It is quite sad and unfortunate that the Bayelsa State Government led by Senator Douye Diri would bring himself so low to the extent of going after law-abiding citizens of Nigeria, particularly Ijaw youths, who have gathered for a political association. We are not here to cause trouble; we are here to express support and solidarity with the President,” he said.
“The governor, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, should be encouraging peaceful gatherings and not trying to disrupt them. It is sad and unfortunate,” he added.
The former youth leader also condemned the sporadic shooting at their gathering, thanking security agencies for protecting them from what he described as hired thugs.
“I commend the security agencies for standing by us. I totally condemn the undemocratic actions we witnessed today. This has shown that the governor is deceptive and cannot be trusted. He is not fit to be called a leader of the Ijaw nation,” Ekerefe declared.

He further announced that after the rally, the group would march to the Bayelsa State Government House to protest what they described as the governor’s failure to provide security for the people.
“No matter what they do, I want to assure the people of Bayelsa that a new dawn has come today,” Ekerefe stated boldly.
