Former Nigerian First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has received the Global Women’s Peace Ambassador Award and is calling on women worldwide to stay committed to peace and justice. Following her recent international recognition, Dame Patience calls for peace, justice, and women empowerment around the world.

Mrs. Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s First Lady from 2010 to 2015, was recently honoured with the Global Women’s Peace Ambassador Award by the Women’s Federation for World Peace International (WFWPI) in Seoul, South Korea. But rather than just celebrating the award, she used the spotlight to call others to action.

Speaking at the ceremony, she said the award was “a reminder that our work is far from over.” She described it not just as recognition of her past work, but as motivation to continue advocating for peaceful, inclusive communities.

“This award is not just about me,” she said. “It is a call to all of us—especially women—to rise up, speak out, and help build a better world.”

The award was presented by WFWPI President, Mrs. Moriko Hori, who praised Mrs. Jonathan’s efforts in promoting peace and women’s rights in Nigeria and beyond. Other awardees included serving and former First Ladies from across the globe.

In her speech, Mrs. Jonathan reflected on her journey as a First Lady and a humanitarian. She highlighted her efforts to support women and children through education and community-based programs. “I’ve seen how giving a woman or a child a chance at education can completely change lives,” she said.

She thanked her family, including her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan who had also recieved sunak peace award recently, for standing by her side. She also gave special appreciation to Nigeria’s current First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her encouragement, and extended warm regards to African women “for their unending sacrifices in building peaceful and progressive societies.”

Mrs. Jonathan concluded with a powerful message:
“We must continue to push boundaries and challenge stereotypes. Every voice matters. Let’s keep working until every woman and child can live in peace, safety, and dignity.”
