The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the reported formation of a “National Caretaker Committee” by former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, describing the move as “deepening illegality and weaponising absurdity.”
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday by the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said Wike and his allies had attempted to falsely present a private political arrangement as an official party structure, despite their expulsion from the party.
According to the statement, the individuals involved “lack the authority to convene or coordinate any activity in the name of the PDP,” as all party organs—including the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT)—remain intact under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The party further recalled that Wike’s associates, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Sam Anyanwu, had filed a suit on November 21, 2025, seeking to nullify the PDP Convention and its outcomes. Their request for an interim injunction was rejected by the Federal High Court, which warned all parties against actions that could undermine the court’s final judgment.
“By announcing a fictitious National Caretaker Committee, they have acted in clear contempt of court,” the PDP said, noting that the action fundamentally altered the legal standing of the plaintiffs.

The party criticised what it called a continuous attempt by Wike’s camp to destabilise the PDP since 2023, accusing them of acting as “a full-fledged tool in the ruling party’s playbook, weaponised by a Wike-led band of APC apologists.”
Describing the group as a “comical spectacle,” the PDP reassured its members and supporters that the party remains committed to a path of institutional rebirth anchored on transparency, equity, honesty and inclusiveness.

The statement concluded by reaffirming that Wike and his associates remain expelled and have no legal or moral authority to act on behalf of the party.
