The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its constitutional authority and called for the immediate recognition and swearing-in of Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary of the party.
This resolution was part of a communique issued at the end of an emergency BoT meeting held today, February 5 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, and presented by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara.
The BoT emphasized its status as a prominent organ of the party as outlined in Section 13 (1)(r) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017). It also reaffirmed its responsibility under Section 32 (5)(a) to uphold the highest standards of morality and discipline within the party.
Following a thorough review, the BoT adopted the report of its committee, led by Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN, regarding the office of the National Secretary. In full compliance with the declaratory judgment of the High Court of Enugu, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal, the BoT recognized Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP.
The BoT directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to recognize and immediately swear in Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as National Secretary, ensuring the party adheres to the Court of Appeal’s judgment. It urged all PDP organs, critical stakeholders, and democracy development partners to respect and abide by the judgment regarding the National Secretary position.
The Board commended the PDP Governors’ Forum, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the South East Executive Committee for their steadfast commitment to upholding the party’s constitution and operational guidelines. It also expressed satisfaction with the decision to hold the much-anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, March 13, 2025, describing it as a critical platform for deliberations that will shape the party’s future and, by extension, Nigeria’s political landscape.
In recognition of their exemplary leadership and role in stabilizing the party, the BoT unanimously passed a vote of confidence in its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and its Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
The Board further urged all party members to remain united and work together to strengthen the PDP, emphasizing its commitment to reclaiming its position in Nigeria’s political leadership.
