Rivers State High Court halts the PDP South-South Zonal Congress in Calabar amid leadership disputes over suspended VP Dan Orbih.
Port Harcourt, Rivers State – In a dramatic legal intervention, a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued an interim injunction that has brought the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) planned South-South Zonal Congress to an abrupt halt. The court’s ruling restrains both the party and its suspended National Vice Chairman South-South, Dan Orbih, from proceeding with the congress slated for Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Calabar, Cross River State.
Presiding over the matter, Justice G.V. Obomanu ruled in favor of the claimants after detailed submissions by their counsel, Emeka D.A. Ojoko. The court directed all parties involved—including agents and representatives of the PDP—to cease any preparations for the congress pending further judicial review. The injunction mandates that the status quo be maintained as of February 20, 2025, until the hearing and final determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction.
In an effort to ensure that all relevant parties are duly notified, the court granted the claimants permission to serve legal documents on the PDP and Orbih through substituted service. This includes posting notices at the South-South Zonal Headquarters in Port Harcourt as well as publishing the notice in a widely circulated national newspaper.

The case has been adjourned, with the next hearing on the Motion on Notice scheduled for February 28, 2025. The ruling has temporarily stalled the PDP’s internal electoral process in the South-South region, intensifying scrutiny over the party’s leadership structure in the area and raising questions about the future direction of its organizational reforms.
