The National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has invited former Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and 10 other party members to appear before it on February 12, 2025, following a review of petitions lodged against them.
In a statement released after its meeting at the Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, the Disciplinary Committee announced that it had examined five petitions. While three petitions against key members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were set aside to protect ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party, the committee decided to proceed with the remaining two.

The statement, signed by NDC Chairman High Chief Tom Ikimi, reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to party discipline and fairness in handling internal disputes.
The upcoming disciplinary hearings will see petitioners and their witnesses present their cases against the accused party members. Although details of the petitions were not disclosed, the decision to summon high-profile figures like Ortom and Anyanwu indicates the seriousness of the allegations.
This move comes at a time when the PDP is working to consolidate its internal structure ahead of future elections. By addressing grievances through formal mechanisms, the party aims to prevent internal conflicts from escalating into public crises that could weaken its chances at the polls.
Political observers have noted that the decision to step down petitions against top NWC members reflects the party’s strategic balancing act between enforcing discipline and maintaining unity. The involvement of the Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees in reconciliation efforts suggests that party leadership is keen on preventing any rift that could destabilize the PDP.
Meanwhile, the NDC has urged party members with grievances to follow due process by channeling their complaints through the committee rather than resorting to public confrontations.

With February 12 fast approaching, The appearance of the plaintiffs in court or lack thereof—could determine the next steps, including possible sanctions. If the hearings proceed smoothly, they could reinforce confidence in the PDP’s internal governance. However, if the process is seen as selective or politically motivated, it may trigger further discord within the party.
