The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken legal action against the acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Jarret Tenebe, over what it describes as a violent and unlawful takeover of its party office/secretariat in Benin City.
The PDP filed a lawsuit at the Edo State High Court seeking to stop Tenebe and his team from stepping foot again on the disputed property located at No. 49 Airport Road, which the party says it legally rented from Mr. Ena Agbontan.

But it’s not just about the land, the PDP is asking the court to award it over N900 million in damages. This includes:
- N322 million for destroyed office items like laptops, generators, and furniture,
- N90 million for emergency relocation to a hotel office space, and
- N500 million for emotional and operational damages caused by the forceful eviction.

The party claims that its staff and officials were kicked out on January 16, 2025, in what it called a “trespass” and an “attack on democracy.” The PDP says the property agreement it had with the landlord is still valid and that the APC had no right to take over the premises.
The lawsuit also demands a daily fine of N5 million starting from February 13, 2025, until the court makes its decision.
Super useful! I’ll definitely be applying some of these ideas.
